Pool Frog System Installation

  1. Apply teflon tape to both ends of 6" nipple.
  2. Screw one end of nipple into filter head outlet. Tighten with wrench.  Do not over-tighten.
  3. Screw left port of Cycler on to other end of nipple until upright and secure.
  4. Apply teflon tape to threads of hose adapter and screw into right port of Cycler.  Tighten with wrench.  Do not over-tighten.
  5. On aboveground pools, installing a check valve is optional.
Installation with Heater -

Supplies: Hacksaw or PVC cutter, PVC cement, check valve (recommended if using Bac Pac).  CAUTION: Always install after all other equipment and away from heater.  Do not install in copper pipe.  Make sure to leave at least 12" to 15" above the Cycler for removing the Reservoir and Pacs.

  1. Cut out a section of pipe approximately 1" less than width of feeder at ports.
  2. Following PVC cement directions, apply to both the pipe and the inside of the slip bushings on both ends of the Cycler.
  3. Insert PVC pipe into Cycler ends and hold in place 5 to 10 seconds to bond.
  4. With heaters using the Bac Pac, a check valve is recommended.

Frog Start-Up

  1. Add a stabilizer or conditioner to the aboveground pool at the beginning of the season.  This will prevent chlorine burn-off.  Follow manufacturer's directions carefully for your Kayak Pool.
  2. Shock the pool with chlorine to rid the water of all contaminants before beginning with Frog.  Follow manufacturer's directions carefully.
  3. WARNING: Do not add shock in or near the skimmer or into the Cycler as it could damage equipment, risk potential explosion or discolor your pool surface...THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT TO START-UP.  USE CHLORINE SHOCK ONLY.
  4. When chlorine reading is down to .5 ppm install a Frog Mineral Reservoir into the Cycler and replace cap.
  5. Run Cycler with Reservoir inserted for 10 minutes on Maximum setting.
  6. Open cap and remove Flow Control Pac and discard.  Insert chlorine Bac Pac.
  7. Set the Control Dial.
  8. SET CONTROL DIAL BY MATCHING UP THE PARAMETERS OF YOUR POOL ON THE CHARTS BELOW - THIS IS A STARTING POINT ONLY

Operating The Pool T-Valve

Your Kayak pool's T-Valve is the device that controls the flow of water from the pool to the pump.  It determines how much of the water's flow is from the skimmer and how much is from the floor drain.

The valve is shaped like the letter "T."  On the red handle there is a sticker with a "T" on it.  When the "T" on this sticker is aligned with the valve itself, the flow of water is coming half from the skimmer and half from the floor drain, and then going to the pump.  The points on the stickers "T" point to what is open in the valve. By turning the handle, you can adjust the flow or shut off more suction from the skimmer if you notice a lot of floating debris on top of the water. If not, you might want more drawn from the floor drain to reduce the amount of vacuuming necessary. You can also shut the flow off going to the pump if you need to service the pump or tank.

When sweeping your pool, turn the handle so that it is pulling only from the skimmer. This will give you the most suction for your vacuum attachments.

When making adjustments to the T-valve, turn off the pump to prevent any possible damage.

Vacuuming Your Pool
The vacuum for your swimming pool works like a household vacuum, but uses water instead of air. For this reason, care must be taken not to let air get in the systerm as this would weaken or halt the suction.

  1. Follow your filter manufacturer's cleaning instructions prior to vacuuming. Clean your skimmer and pump basket of all debris.
  2. Prepare by gathering the material you need to vacuum your poool. You will need a vacuum head, vacuum pole, vacuum hose, and a skim vac attachment.
  3. Attach the vacuum head to the vacuum pole. Next attach the vac hose to the vacuum head.
  4. Turn off the pump. Remove the weir door from the skimmer. Turn the ball valve to the skimmer only position. Place skim vac in the skimmer over the basket and turn pump on.
  5. Submerge the vacuum head under the water and fill the hose by placing the open end of the hose in front of the water return. When all air is out of the hose, cover the end of the hose with your palm. Walk over to the skimmer and attach the hose to the skim vac attachment. You should now have a vacuum that is primed and ready to clean.
  6. Press down firmly as you vacuum and move the head slowly across the bottom. Although moving the vacuum at a fast pace may appear to be doing the job equally well, this actually creates waves, which sweep the dirt up and suspend it in the water. This dirt will eventually settle back down to the bottom. Since this occurs naturally to some extent, you may be wise to run the filter on bottom drain only for a few hours after vacuuming. It is also very common to have some fine particles returning into the pool as you vacuum.
  7. If the pool is very dirty and suction seems to decrease after vacuuming for a while, it could be a sign that the filter needs cleaning.
  8. After vacuuming has been completed, turn off pump and remove skim vac from the skimmer. CAUTION do not pull skim vac out of the skimmer when the pump is on, this will cause damage to the skimmer. Replace weir door in skimmer and clean the skimmer and pump basket. Return the ball valve to your operating position. Turn on the pump. Check the water pressure returning to the pool. If it has decreased, your filter may need cleaning.

Winterizing Your Kayak Pool

Starting with clean water ( vacuum if necessary ), winterize your aboveground pool as follows:
  1. TO LOWER YOUR WATER LEVEL
    1. Set T-Valve to full bottom drain
    2. Remove drain plug from bottom of filter tank or disconnect return line from return fitting.
    3. Turn on pump and let it run until the water level drops below the return.
  2. POOL PREPARATION
    1. Remove in-pool ladder by loosening set screws in ladder flange.
    2. Remove jet-air fitting from inlet fitting where applicable.
    3. Remove skimmer basket.
    4. Clean vinyl with Tile & Vinyl Cleaner.
  3. ADD WINTERIZING CHEMICALS
    1. Use caution in adding chemicals.  Never mix chemicals.  If chemicals come in contact with skin, flush with water immediately.  Refer to chemical containers for correct application and safety procedures.
    2. Continue to run filter to thoroughly dissolve chemicals.
    3. To winterize the pump & filter, follow the manufactures instructions in their manual.  Never allow moisture to freeze in the pump or filter.
    4. Secure the hose that comes from the floor drain to a deck support so that it points upward and the end is higher than the water level.  Do not cap this line.

Installing The Winter Cover

  1. Place the box containing the cover at either end of the pool.  Open the box and place the cover on the deck along the Vinyl  Edging.  Roll the cover out - leaving equal amounts of the cover on both sides of the pool.
  2. Using two people on opposite sides of the cover, take the leading edge of the cover in hand and pull it tightly between you.  Walk the cover to the opposite end of the pool - being careful not to dip the leading edge in the water or catch it on any protruding objects.
  3. Allow the cover to lay on the deck, with the remainder draped into and across the pool where it is supported by the underlying water.  Secure the cover by placing water sleeves all the way around the cover where it overlaps on the deck.  Be sure there are no gaps that will allow the wind underneath the cover that might tear the cover.
  4. Be sure that the cover is draped loosely enough that it lays against the walls and then across the top of the water.  DO NOT use the grommets to tie the cover tightly.  This will result in tears in the covers.  The cover should be secured by water bags (or other weight) that are laid on top of the cover where it overlaps the deck.  KEEP THE COVER FREE OF SNOW BUILD-UP AND PUMP OFF EXCESS WATER.  This will prevent possible ice damage to the liner.
